A New Look at Inflight Internet

Boeing Co.’s decision to pull out inflight internet service in 2006 paved the way for other airlines to reconsider their own installation of this upgrade. Analysts said that the failure of Boeing’s Connexion online service rests in the fact that it’s very costly to install and operate. Therefore, large expenses were already due before a single customer pays. Add to this the downturn in airline sales brought about by the terrorist attacks made in 2001.

Virgin Airlines, Jetblue Airways Corp., and AMR Corp.’s American Airline are now turning to air-to-ground connections in order to avoid the expensive satellite fees of Boeing.
