VoIP

VoIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol and is a system that transmits voice traffic over an IP-based network. VoIP has been very popular among consumers lately, especially when making long-distance calls, because of its cost advantages. VoIP is reported to be cheap, but some companies offer their services for free. As long as you have a computer with a mic, speakers, and a broadband internet connection, you can take advantage of free VoIP communication.

There are three ways to use VoIP: one is for both parties to have a PC, another is to have a phone on one end and a PC on the other, and the third is for both parties to have two phones. Although VoIP can be used on a mobile phone or telephone set, this service usually requires payment but it is still cheaper than making standard long distance phone calls.
